Owning a dog comes with the realization that their lifespan isn’t as long as we’d like. They share a portion of our life journey, but we are their entire lives, so it’s important to provide them with the best possible life. We understand that they’ve worked hard for everything they have. When Zack Schou, co-founder of Marleys Mutts and the Pawsitive Change initiative, first saw Henry, an aging dog at a shelter in Tehachapi, California, he knew that he wanted to give him the best possible life. Henry, a scruffy 16-year-old with gray spots on his fur, wasn’t as active as the other dogs at the shelter.
Zack was deeply moved by the thought of the dog spending his last days in such a dismal state. As a result, he decided to step up and become Henry’s new owner in March of 2021. His goal was to give Henry the opportunity to form new friendships and create happy memories in his final years. Though Henry initially struggled to move around due to his advanced age, he surprised everyone by putting in a lot of effort to regain his energy. Before long, he was running and playing like a much younger dog. Zack couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the transformation in Henry’s behavior.
Along with dealing with the effects of aging, Henry faced the challenge of testicular cancer during his stay with the foster family. Thankfully, he underwent a successful procedure to overcome this ailment. However, Henry’s furry friend, Zack, was also struggling with health issues. Initially, it seemed as though Henry wouldn’t stay with Zack for very long since the old dog had limited time left. But to everyone’s surprise, Henry started to show signs of rejuvenation over time.
Zack felt happy with the progress he made with Henry, but knew it was time to say goodbye and find a new home for himself. He wanted to ensure that Henry had the best life possible. Despite being an older dog, Henry easily found a new home due to his lively spirit and cheerful nature. His new owner dotes on him, takes great care of him, and shares their escapades on social media.
Despite his age, Henry remains energetic and enjoys basking in the warmth of the sun. He has a fondness for nature, acknowledges the love and care of his family, and boasts a significant number of followers on social media. This transformation in his life occurred thanks to Zac, who encountered Henry at the shelter and was determined to provide him with a better life than being forsaken. Now, Henry is no longer a neglected senior dog, but a treasured companion.
