Scout wasn’t content with just living at the Antrim County Animal Shelter in Bellaire, Michigan. He took matters into his own paws and started venturing out in the middle of the night. Surprisingly, he always ended up at a nursing home across the street. What’s even more fascinating is that Scout didn’t do this just once or twice. He repeatedly snuck into his newfound home, almost as if he was desperate to convey that it was his true abode. It seemed like he was pleading, “Please don’t take me back to the shelter, hoomans.”
Scout had quite the adventure trying to reach Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, Michigan, even though it was just across the street. He had to brave crossing a busy highway and then cleverly sneak through the automatic doors after navigating past a series of fences.
It was peculiar how he would sneak into the nursing home in the wee hours and doze off on a plush leather sofa in the lobby. At first, the staff would escort him back to the shelter, but as he kept returning, they realised that there was something about their establishment that put him at ease. They ultimately agreed to have him stay as a permanent resident since he seemed so content and joyful there.
According to Jennifer Martinek, a member of MBMCF, Scout’s consistent presence at the nursing home made them feel like it was fate. The staff has embraced him as a part of their family, and he has found his place within their community. Clinical care coordinator Stephanie Elsey believes that Scout chose them. Initially admitted as a resident, Scout has become an essential member of the facility, providing compassionate care and insight to all who cross his path. It did not take long for everyone to fall in love with him.
One of the residents at MBMCF claims that Scout has a magical ability to uplift one’s spirit whenever they’re upset or having a bad day. Scout is content with his life at MBMCF and is deeply empathetic towards residents who suffer from terminal illnesses and dementia. He seems to have a natural instinct to comfort them and provide them with the special attention they need.
On Facebook, the MBMCF team declared Scout as an indispensable member of their family and couldn’t envision their lives without him. His affectionate nature towards the elderly is a mystery to all, and it’s unclear what contributes to his kind-heartedness. All that is known about his past is that he was raised in a household where he was subjected to abuse.
