Caitlyn, a mix of chocolate brown bull terrier, appears just like any other healthy and friendly bull terrier that receives proper care. However, her story took a horrifying turn when she was rescued from a terrible case of abuse. A distressing image of Caitlyn’s muzzle, bound tightly by electrical tape, shocked the world on May 27, 2015. This cruel act was carried out by her previous owner in an attempt to silence her barks.
The rescuers were shocked to see how tightly the tape was wrapped around her mouth. They estimated that she had endured the torturous ordeal for at least 48 hours, without being able to drink or eat.
Fortunately, the fortunate pup found herself in the loving hands of the Charleston Animal Society, where she was welcomed with open arms. Named Caitlyn, she faced a daunting journey, as her jaws required a thorough reconstruction. Thanks to the remarkable skills of Dr. Henri Bianucci and the compassionate team at Veterinary Specialty Care in Mount Pleasant, Caitlyn’s tongue was saved, and her injured mouth was skillfully restored.
Now, she bears a permanent mark encircling her mouth, but she can finally bid farewell to the fear-filled days of enduring such mistreatment, as she joyfully resides with a devoted caretaker.
Ted Corvery, formerly employed by the Charleston County prosecution in the case against Caitlyn’s abuser, William Leonard Dodson, now proudly calls himself Caitlyn’s owner. Reflecting on that unforgettable moment when he first laid eyes on Caitlyn after her rescue, Corvery’s memories come flooding back.
“I developed a strong bond with her,” shared Corvey in an interview with ABCNews4, “and that made me deeply involved in the situation. From that point on, we began getting it ready for legal proceedings.”
In 2015, Dodson pleaded guilty and received a five-year prison sentence for the mistreatment of animals.
This event symbolized the ultimate conclusion of the mistreatment Caitlyn had endured. Fast forward four years, and now the dog is flourishing. Corvey happily reported, “She is incredibly affectionate and exceptionally lively.”
“We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have Caitlyn in our lives. From the moment we brought her home, we could tell that she was meant to be a part of our family forever. She brings so much joy to our household, and we cherish every moment with her.”
In addition to being a beloved member of our family, Caitlyn has also found a group of furry friends to play with. She shares her playful adventures with Lucy, a delightful puggle mix, and Sully, a charming Dachshund mix. With these loyal companions, Caitlyn will never have to worry about going back to a life of uncertainty under the care of the Corveys.
