The internet community has fallen in love with Fred, the Labrador, who stepped up to the plate and became a single father to nine little ducklings that recently lost their mother.
Meet Fred, a beloved resident at Mountfitchet Castle in Essex, England. Having spent his life surrounded by chickens, goats, ducks, and peacocks, he is no stranger to the animal kingdom. One day, when the castle staff discovered a litter of ducklings without their mother, Fred suspected that she had fallen prey to a nearby wolf. Upon meeting the helpless little creatures, Fred’s heart immediately melted and he knew he had to step up and become their dad. Despite being a 10-year-old dog, considered elderly in dog years, Fred has proven to be an excellent and proud father to his new feathered children.
Fred’s cute little ducklings enjoyed spending time with him – they would share meals and snuggle up close to him, sometimes even perching on his head. They particularly loved going for rides on their daddy’s back since it offered them an amazing view of the surroundings!
Since the online sharing of Fred’s family photo, tourists have been visiting the castle to meet the proud father. It’s not surprising how many have come since Fred has truly earned the title “dad of the year.”
