Feline Sister Goes Above and Beyond to Protect Brother, Endures Poison Spray to the Face

Protective Sister Cat Sprayed in Face with Poison Trying to Shield Brother from Getting Hurt

Sharing is caring, so let me introduce you to Gretel and her brother, Hansel. These sibling cats were recently rescued from a very unfortunate situation. They were hungry stray kittens living behind a grocery store dumpster, trying their best to survive off scraps of food.

An individual with malicious intentions deliberately sprayed poisonous chemicals on them in an attempt to harm them. According to witnesses, Gretel stepped forward and shielded her brother from the chemicals with her body. Gretel bravely took the brunt of the injury while trying to protect her brother.

A kind-hearted person brought the cats to a local shelter, which then contacted Sarah Richardson of Community Cats of Central Arkansas for assistance. Sarah, an experienced and compassionate cat rescuer, warmly welcomed Hansel and Gretel into her home. “My heart goes out to these two, but I am grateful we have them here now,” said Sarah.

Gretel has a long journey ahead of her to fully recover, but Sarah is determined to help her thrive. With the worst behind them, Hansel and Gretel can finally feel safe knowing that they are in good hands. “We want them to receive plenty of nourishing food, treats, medicine, and endless love,” said Sarah. Although understandably timid at first, all of their fears soon melted away.

“When they were first rescued, they had a bit of a feral attitude, but now they have become the most affectionate cats under our care. Gretel, in particular, has made amazing progress with her emotional recovery. Despite experiencing cruelty, she still loves and trusts humans unconditionally. Sarah said, ‘She is the most precious cat we’re fostering right now.'”

Gretel enjoys being the center of attention and expresses her gratitude with gentle nudges and kisses. She is very protective of her brother, Hansel, and he returns the favor by being equally protective of her. In fact, this brother and sister duo are inseparable. They take care of each other and rely on one another for comfort.

Sarah expressed amazement at how much the cats love each other and believes that when the time comes, they will be adopted as a bonded pair. Although it is more challenging to adopt cats as a pair, Sarah is certain that it’s worth the wait. On the other hand, Gretel is facing an uphill battle in her recovery, requiring daily medication and frequent vet visits. Despite this, she handles it like a champ.

Sarah stated that cats like Gretel are the reason for their rescue efforts, and they believe she deserves a second chance. Gretel is currently our sponsored cat of the month for our Meow Mail program, and she requires food, supplies, and medical funds for her ongoing long-term care. With a $10 donation, you will receive a personalized letter with heartwarming updates on how your donation changed her life. Please consider making a recurring donation to receive Meow Mail each month for future cats and kittens in critical condition.

Sarah expressed her gratitude to all those who have supported her and the other injured and sick cats along the way. She acknowledged that their support is the reason why they can save so many cats.
